Cecil ‘Fig’ Newton

A family owned company, FIG LLC, Fields In Grass was founded in 2003 by Cecil 'Fig' Newton.  He graduated from SFAU where he played college football and earned his teaching certification.

During his 30 years of coaching baseball and football he also took on the responsibility of maintaining the sports fields. Over the years, he provided consulting services to other school districts who asked for help with their fields. The rest is history. 

He has the hands on perspective of a coach and all that is involved in making sports fields safe, playable and looking great. He understands the budgeting process and the limited funds that coaches have to work with. Yet he still finds a way to make each field the best they can be. To Fig, sports fields are a passion and he has the passion for what he does.  His philosophy:  Trust is earned when we act with a heart of service, provide true value, and seek a strong customer relationship.

Steve Hutchison

Steve Hutchison “The God Father of Athletic Field Construction” Steve has built over 300 artificial turf football fields and constructed over 42 golf courses. His experience is unquestionable when it comes to constructing athletic fields.

His first football field was Lambeau Field in 1997. In addition, he has built football fields for several NFL teams, NCAA, and high schools. His experience is unquestionable when it comes to building artificial turf fields and turf grass fields.

Steve has also worked for multiple engineering and architectural firms across the country in the planning and designing of athletic fields. And, he has worked for several NCAA colleges as a consultant.

Steve Hutchison truly is “The God Father of Athletic Field Construction”.
